In this album Tsiren-Bazar Badmazhapov, art historian, presents a scientific classification of the Vajrayana iconography. Album based on the collection of the museums of Buryatia.
The album "The Iconography of Vajrayana" is the first edition of the rarest collection of the tantric paintings, sculptures, miniatures, mandalas from the Ulan-Ude museum and the Kyakhta museum (Kyakhta - ancient city in Buryatia) The subject matter of the tantric images represent the early and the late styles of the Vajrayana Art in Tibet, Mongolia and Buryatia.
This album includes about 600 plates arranged as complet collection of the basic iconografical types:
1. Enlightened Beings
2. Yidams or meditational deities (peaceful, wrathful, and demi-peaceful, demi-wrathful)
3. Dharmapalas or Guardians of the Dharma
4. Mandalas
5. Illustrations of the Dharma.
The plates illustrate the many variations in style of the Vajrayana Art and Iconography in Tibet, Mongolia and Buryatia.
